Groom Details Checklist | Grand Rapids Weddings
My husband once described my photos as “where it’s all about the bride and the groom is just a prop.” But let’s face it, put a group of guys together dressed in sharp suits, it’s pretty hard to ignore! A few weeks ago I shared my list of items for brides to remember on the morning of their wedding, and this week, it’s the guys’ turn! It won’t be as heavy, but here is my Groom details checklist!
The Accessories
A lot of times, the guys tend to rent their entire outfit. While girls dream of finding the One (dress, not the groom), guys tend to walk into the nearest rental store, see what fits them, and gets whatever color their partner dictated. (Side note: I have rarely been to a wedding where at least one of the rented items wasn’t wildly incorrect in sizing. I ALWAYS recommend just buying a suit instead of renting. It costs about the same if not cheaper, and every guy should have a good suit in his closet!) Where you can add in some personality are the accessories! Maybe the groom is wearing a different tie, or has a special pocket square. Personalized cufflinks is a great way to add some fun as well! A new watch or tie clip make for a great gift, and don’t forget about the crazy socks!
The Rings
I’m putting this one here as a bit of a trick. As I mentioned for the bridal details, I prefer to have all of the rings together in the morning to be able to photograph before you put them on for the rest of your life! If you are getting ready in the same venue though, I might sneak the groom’s ring away for a minute with all of his details.
The Special Touches
Just like with the bridal details, don’t forget the special touches that might not be listed on this groom details checklist! Did you write your own vows in a special notebook? Maybe you have the family Bible that your officiant will be using. Will you be wearing a special cologne? A lot of times, the groom will gift his attendants with custom flasks or drinkware! This is also a great detail to include!
A Fun Alternative
As you know, I am ALL about having fun around here. So if you are one of the grooms that will be renting everything, with no different or sentimental details, it might seem silly to take a photo of shoes and ties that you don’t remember in 5 years. If that’s the case, just like everything else on your wedding day, you don’t have to do something just because you’re “supposed” to. Instead of traditional getting ready photos, give the guys something to do! Meet up for breakfast, head to the arcade, or find a venue with a pool table! This is far more relaxing than adding the pressure of correctly tying a tie while having it photographed!
