Over the past decade I have had the opportunity to shoot at any and all types of wedding venues in multiple states, from country clubs to farms, from ballrooms to beaches, from backyards to parks. While they each have their pros and cons, at the end of the day there exists the perfect venue to fit the vision of your wedding day! Since permanently relocating to Michigan, I’ve hardly shot at the same location twice, so I’ve really gotten to see the wide variety of venues we have to offer! In today’s post, I want to go over (in no particular order) my top 5 favorite Grand Rapids wedding venues I’ve experienced!
I’ve been lucky enough to photograph gorgeous weddings a few times at the Grand Rapids Public Museum! It’s such a unique and iconic place to have your wedding reception. There’s nothing quite like having your first dance under the giant whale skeleton! The stained glass window is the perfect backdrop for your head table, and you can’t forget about the carousel! But above all, if you love spending the night under the stars, the planetarium is a show-stopping ceremony site!
The Cheney Place is a gorgeous industrial warehouse turned wedding venue. They have a private bridal suite, an entire floor decked out for cocktail hour, and an eye-catching disco ball centerpiece above the dance floor. Their space is incredibly versatile for any theme or aesthetic you’d want to incorporate, but their second floor cocktail space is a vintage shabby-chic dream!
If you’re looking for elegance, look no further than the Ballroom at McKay! Nestled right on Monroe Center, the location is perfect for that downtown vibe. Chandeliers, large columns, and marble interiors really surround your guests in luxury! As a bonus, there is also access to the rooftop of the building for incredible views of downtown Grand Rapids!
Whether rain or shine, Frederick Meijer Gardens has a multitude of options for your wedding! With 158 acres of picturesque landscapes, there is a ceremony site with your name on it! Inside, the greenhouses offer a lush surrounding for any time of year! The atrium puts an impressive highlight on your event, underneath the stunning Chihuly chandelier.
The Downtown Market‘s greenhouse is an absolute dream wedding location! Again, it’s perfect for rain or shine, and is green and lush all year round! The pictures here were from a February wedding! But inside we were nice and toasty, imagining we were in some tropical environment. Across the way, their banquet room has the perfect set-up for your reception, with access to a balcony for those late night pauses to take in the city lights!
